Nesjarspelet

Overview

In 1016, one of the greatest sea battles in Norwegian history took place just outside the coast of Brunlanes, in Larvik, Vestfold; Battle of Nesjar. On one side the great viking legend Olav II Haraldsson, later known as St. Olaf. His opponents, Erling Skjalgsson, Svein Håkonarson and Einar Tambarskjelve, came from the west. The fleets clashed off the coast on Palm Sunday 25 March 1016. It is generally regarded as a fierce battle with heavy casualties. Svein Håkonarson was chased off, thus relinquishing his grip on power. The road now seemed open for King Olav to establish a unified rule of Norway, and give Christianity the upper hand. Nesjar Teaterforening setter opp publikumssuksessen fra 2016. Opplev vikinghistorie, kjærlighet, drama, musikk og iscenesetting av slaget ved Nesjar fra 1016. Olav den Hellige slåss og seiret, og kunne befeste sin posisjon som Norges konge.

Spelet omhandler Olavs store sjøslag ved Nesjar, men er også en fortelling om slekt, kjærlighet, svik og kampen for frihet.
