Enchantment is the feeling of awe that arises when you look at the star-filled sky, a piece of art or listen to music that catches your complete attention. This feeling reminds us that we are part of something greater.
Forest is a place and space that invites you to become enchanted. Research says that the feeling of enchantment is strongly connected with happiness and meaningfulness. It decreases the amount of rush and stress we experience. It may even help improve our immune functions.
Skogsyoga is much more than yoga postures in the woods. It deals with embodying the power of nature, learning to awaken the creativity and intuition within and connecting both with yourself and the environment on a deeper level. In the woods perception switches, imagination opens up and new possibilities become alive.
In the woods, yoga as union becomes almost tangible. In skogsyoga, you will not just merely be in nature, but also participate in it.
In addition, nature’s health benefits are undeniable: stress hormone levels and blood pressure decrease already after 5 minutes, nervous system health and body’s immune responses improve, breathing eases and the mind becomes clear, focused and calm.
The session includes a short introduction and a yoga practice that concentrates on settling into your natural state of being. You become enchanted with the details of the forest and use your body to embody the stillness, slowness, groundiness and airiness that the forest provides. Practices are calm and slow, helping you to relax and loosen up.
SKOGSYOGA draws inspiration from Norse mythology, folklore and archetypes as well as from Forestmind techniques (designed to utilize and intensify the natural healing effects of forests).
Let’s bring yoga into the woods and onto the Nordic latitudes with cultural elements and concepts that already live inside of us!

WHAT TO BRING:
Weather-appropriate clothing. Yoga mat is not necessarily needed but you can bring one (or a sitting underlay) along if you wish.
Prior experience of yoga is not needed.
Maximum 15 participants. The event takes place with minimum 5 participants.
Sanni Parkkinen is an experienced yoga teacher (RYT-500) coming originally from Finland. Living in Trondheim since spring 2019, she coaches and facilitates people to live happy & healthy. Sanni has lived and worked in various yoga ashrams and centers in India, USA and Canada. Sanni appreciates her Nordic roots by working with drums and elements of nature. The teachings of yoga have opened up for her a path to understanding the world of Baltic-Finnic as well as Old Norse traditions. Sanni is enthusiastic about nature, stories, mythologies and cultures in addition to well-being.
